Seamless Workforce for a Global Records Management Leader

Background

A global leader in records and information management services partnered with TeamLease Services Limited to manage a segment of its workforce at one of its key operational hubs in the Mumbai/Navi Mumbai region. The enterprise operates in over 60 countries, serving more than 240,000 clients worldwide, including highly regulated sectors such as banking, insurance, telecom, FMCG, and IT/ITES. In India, the company provides end-to-end solutions across document storage, secure shredding, data management, logistics, and warehousing. As part of a strategic decision to optimise operations and strengthen regional logistics efficiency, the organisation decided to relocate its facility from Panvel to Kalyan, impacting 19 employees engaged through TeamLease.

Situation / Challenges

The transition faced unexpected resistance. A section of the workforce refused the transfer and became non-cooperative, obstructing the migration of goods from Panvel to the new Kalyan facility. This unrest escalated with the involvement of a labour Union, posing serious operational, financial, and reputational risks to the client. Left unresolved, the standoff could have disrupted business continuity, caused significant delays, and led to potential legal complications.

TeamLease’s Intervention

Recognising the urgency, TeamLease initiated a structured and empathetic intervention strategy. Our regional compliance and HR teams engaged directly with the affected employees, local community leaders, public representatives and union representatives to understand underlying concerns. Through transparent communication, mediation, and negotiation, TeamLease identified key decision-makers within the union and established a collaborative dialogue. Within three rounds of structured meetings, consensus was built, balancing the needs of employees with the client’s operational priorities. This proactive engagement not only defused the conflict but also reinforced trust among all stakeholders, ensuring compliance and alignment with labour norms.

Outcome

The issue was resolved amicably through the signing of a formal Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) between the union, employees, and TeamLease. The relocation from Panvel to Kalyan was completed smoothly, without escalation or disruption to business operations. The client successfully avoided potential financial losses and legal risks while maintaining employee relations and compliance integrity.
